**Nu Holdings Ltd.** (NYSE: NU) started operations in the United States on **September 10, 2026** and introduced **Nu Global**, a multi-currency digital account that converts customer deposits into Circle's dollar- and euro-pegged stablecoins, **USDC** and **EURC**.

The pair of products is in the company's [Business Wire release](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260910943114/en/Nu-Takes-Next-Step-in-International-Expansion-With-Launch-in-the-United-States-and-introduction-of-Nu-Global) and a matching [Form 6-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1691493/000129281426004518/nu20260909_6k.htm) filed the same day. [Bitcoin.com](https://news.bitcoin.com/finance/latam-banking-giant-nu-launches-us-operations-with-lead-bank/) and [Colombia One](https://colombiaone.com/2026/09/10/nubank-enters-us-david-velez/) carried the same facts. Nu is the largest digital bank in Latin America, with more than **140 million** customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, according to the September 10 materials.

## Two products, two legal wrappers

The U.S. launch and Nu Global arrived on the same morning. They are separate accounts.

In the United States, Nu is a financial technology company. The [release](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260910943114/en/Nu-Takes-Next-Step-in-International-Expansion-With-Launch-in-the-United-States-and-introduction-of-Nu-Global) says banking services and the Nu Credit Card are provided by **Lead Bank**, Member FDIC. Deposits sit at that partner. Nu applied for a U.S. national bank charter in 2025 and received [preliminary conditional approval](https://international.nubank.com.br/company/nu-secures-approval-to-establish-us-national-bank/) from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in January 2026. The 6-K says U.S. products are launching "in the interim through a partner-bank model." The proposed bank, **Nubank, N.A.**, is still organizing. [Nu's January 29 notice](https://international.nubank.com.br/company/nu-secures-approval-to-establish-us-national-bank/) said the OCC decision does not let Nubank, N.A. open as its own national bank until remaining conditions, including FDIC insurance and Federal Reserve steps, are met.

Nu Global is a different wrapper. The [terms and conditions](https://nu.com/global/en/terms-and-conditions) name **Nu Global AG**, at Grafenauweg 8, 6300 Zug, Switzerland (company number CHE-349.146.623). It is a member of VQF, a FINMA-recognized self-regulatory organization, and says it is not directly supervised by FINMA. Those terms also close the product to U.S. persons.

## What ships in the United States

The [6-K](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1691493/000129281426004518/nu20260909_6k.htm) lists the U.S. stack: deposit accounts with a daily yield of **3.50% APY**, fee-free domestic and international money transfers, and a no-annual-fee credit card with unlimited **1.5%** cashback.

The press release fills in the names. The **Nu Account** advertises 3.50% APY on every dollar, with interest calculated and paid daily on the available balance, and includes a limited-edition **Nu Account metal debit card**. A footnote dated September 10, 2026 says the rate is variable and can change at any time, including after account opening. Fee-free transfers start with Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, then expand. The **Nu Credit Card**, through an exclusive Mastercard relationship, has no annual fee and unlimited 1.5% cashback on every purchase, plus Mastercard World Elite benefits and a limited-edition metal card. A later 4.50% APY on a savings goal of up to $10,000 is described as coming soon for customers who hold both a Nu Account and a Nu Credit Card and make 3 or more eligible card transactions in the last 34 days. A 2% cashback boost is also described as coming soon under qualifying conditions.

Cristina Junqueira, co-founder and CEO of Nu US, said the firm wants "to earn the place of being people's primary banking relationship." The published facts are a partner-bank deposit account, a cashback card, and free rails toward the three home markets.

## Nu Global: USDC remittance, Swiss claim

Nu Global is the cross-border product. The 6-K describes a multi-currency account with "fast and free" transfers across **35+** countries, initially between Europe and Latin America, with Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S. planned. Deposits are converted into USDC or EURC. Advertised yields are **3.50% APY** on the dollar stablecoin and **2.20% APY** on the euro stablecoin. The release says those yields accrue daily. A virtual Mastercard is paired for global spend "at competitive exchange rates with no markups." Customers "may also hold and trade a curated selection of digital assets, including Bitcoin and Ethereum."

[Chain Articles](https://chainarticles.com/nu-launches-u-s-banking-and-usdc-global-account/) and [Colombia One](https://colombiaone.com/2026/09/10/nubank-enters-us-david-velez/) repeat those figures. They rest on Nu's own filing, not on an independent rate sheet you can audit from the outside.

The legal structure is the load-bearing part. Section 5.2 of the [Nu Global terms](https://nu.com/global/en/terms-and-conditions) says you do not own specific, identifiable coins on a blockchain or insured accounts with Nu Global. You have a contractual claim against Nu Global AG for the amount and type of each crypto asset and the fiat amounts shown in the app. In a bankruptcy of Nu Global, the terms say those assets would be part of the company's estate. You would rank as an **unsecured creditor**. The account "is not subject to any deposit protection scheme." Nu Global says a Swiss-bank default guarantee sits behind that claim "to the extent required by law." That is a contractual recovery path, not FDIC insurance and not a segregated wallet you alone control.

For someone sending money between Europe and Latin America, the pitch is one app, no transfer fee, and a dollar or euro balance that can sit as USDC or EURC until it is spent. The corridor the 6-K names first is Europe and Latin America now, with home-market apps later. That is a remittance product from a bank already present in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.

Yields on both products are advertised rates and can change. This is not a recommendation to open either account, hold USDC or EURC, or move savings onto a Swiss contractual claim.

## Takeaway

On September 10 Nu opened a U.S. front door through Lead Bank and a separate global account that converts balances into Circle stablecoins. The first is an FDIC-partner deposit product while Nubank, N.A. is still organizing. The second is a Zug-based claim that the terms say is not deposit-insured. If you use Nu Global to move money toward Brazil, Colombia, or Mexico, read the claim language before you treat the APY as a savings account.
